My students are bright children that are looking for their place to shine. They love books, the bigger the better! My student are excited when we pull out a new big book each week in reading. This shelf would allow us to store big books that would be available to the students all the time.
We are a rural school that has middle class students.
My students are in a T-1 class. T-1's job is to provide the students an extra year to mature before sending them down their educational road. They love to soak up new knowledge. With all the latest technology, students are not always excited about "plain, old books." But by offering them big books on a number of topics, they develop a new fascination with literature. We currently have about ten big books in our library, but our current shelf doesn't hold them. The shelving system would allow for a classroom library to be set up that invites students to read.
My Project
The students will use the books to learn about repetitive language. Simple, short stories with repetitive language work best for beginning readers. Students love to learn to read a repeated phrase. This builds confidence and increases the desire to learn.
Any project that motivates children to read is important.
The goal for this project is for children to want to spend time in the printed word. As a teacher, it is my job to motivate and inspire students to learn. That is what this new library will do for our students.
