My students come from challenging environments where aggression is often the answer to many problems. All of my students have some type of learning disability, and some have emotional disabilities. Some of them have trouble interacting appropriately with one another, teachers, and administrators. These students have sometimes gone through some type of trauma, a divorce, or been the victims of abuse or neglect. Our district is 100% free lunch for all students.
My students come from high crime and poverty-stricken areas.
Basic necessities are not often a given. My students with special situations often feel as if no one notices them or acknowledges their positive behavior.
Reading is fundamental. It can increase so many things for students. It can allow them to explore and improve their chances at success. We will be reading the book, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens. In the book Covey discusses how teenagers can become more independent and effective by following seven basic habits. The habits range from being proactive in every aspect of one's life to planning and prioritizing one's daily life and responsibilities. This will be a life changer for some of my students. This will habits to help the to be better students by being responsible, they can apply these habits to their everyday life.
