This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our student-athletes come from across the city of Jackson and our entire school qualifies for free lunch and transportation to and from school based on the fact that the majority of our students live below the poverty level.
Despite the issues facing our students, they come to school every day and persevere.
Most every student attends college post-graduation. Our students need any support available, as our school and district often cannot provide the resources necessary for our students to compete with other high schools in our region. Track is a way that they are able to realize their post-secondary dream.
My Project
My athletes participate in track and field meets. During the meet, they need a safe and cool place to rest to recover and get ready for the track next meet. Students are engaged in a variety of outdoor physical activities to prepare them for track meets.
Pop-tents are needed to provide relief from weather elements while they participate in outdoor track activities.
These materials will make a difference by allowing students to be protected from direct sunlight, heat, or light rain. Students will be able to participate in outdoor activities without the fear of their health being compromised and being in a safe environment. In addition to outdoor practice the tents will be used at track and field sporting events, track meets and etc.
