This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

Mrs. Mayfield from Chesapeake VA is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 50 copies of Bullying in Schools for class lessons on dealing with bullying. The additional fiction books will support the lessons they are learning.

Middle school is such a difficult time for students without having to deal with bullying issues on top of everything else. My students need more instruction about bullying so they do not inadvertently bully someone else and so they know how to handle bullying situations.
My students come from diverse backgrounds and a majority are low-income, single parent households; 84% receive free or reduced lunch.
We are a transient community with a strong military presence. Many of the students live in neighborhoods in which violence is an everyday occurrence. One of the chief components of our mission statement is to provide a SAFE learning environment for all students. We have an active anti-bullying program and are constantly seeking avenues for improvement and education.
we currently have three copies of the book Bullying in Schools that have been extremely well-received by students and staff alike. We want to include the book in lessons presented during Health Education classes to further broaden the impact of the books. The 50 books requested will allow two classes to use them for instruction at the same time. The fiction books showcase bullying in several different ways: one in a Diary of A Wimpy kid format to appeal to readers of those books, another in a sport setting, and yet another dealing with the increasing problem of Cyber bullying. This will allow the lessons learned in class to be supported through the Media Center.
No one should have to endure bullying especially in the safe environment of school.
