Our students are very much like those around the nation-they enjoy being with friends, earning good grades, being part of a loving family, and being accepted.
Many students within our school have underlying dynamics that hamper their ability to have clean clothing and linens.
Many of our students are cared for by individuals whose time and money is spent taking care of the mere essentials. Though they are loved and supplied with essentials, some have financial limitations to a washer, dryer, and detergent.
Approximately 50% of our students receive either free or reduced meals. These numbers correlate directly to underlying limitations of our students. So much of our school's funding is designated to mere facility maintenance and attempting to provide basic technologies. However, those with simple needs are struggling. We have a local food pantry, whose goods often run low in supplies. However, no local means exists for students to wash and dry clothes for a reasonable cost. We are very fortunate that a good washer and dryer were obtained in a local grant for the home arts room, but we lack essential cleaning products for students to wash and dry clothing and linens.
My Project
Students will be provided with detergents, stain treatment, and whitening products to empower them to come to school wearing clean clothes. Self-confidence and comfort are core to the needs of modern man. Our local food bank assists in the foundational needs but does not have cleaning supplies.
Every young man and lady deserves to wear clean clothes to high school and the use of clean bedding and towels.
We have a larger washer and dryer in what was once a home arts classroom, but we do not have the means to purchase detergents. This grant will enable us to provide assistance to those in need of this often overlooked need. We also have a clothing closet, but most often, thse donated items need to be cleaned before distributing them for use.
