My students need light a medicine ball, aerobic steps, a pogo ball and platform for balance and tv/dvd combo to watch videos that show the correct way to do exercises.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My kids need equipment to stay fit, fabulous and healthy. We need equipment for a 'fitness center' we are creating inside a former classroom.
The majority of the students come from Tidewater Gardens in Norfolk Virginia.
Tidewater Gardens, which is one of the poorest neighborhoods in Norfolk, with the highest percentage of government assisted housing. Over 99% of my kids qualified for free breakfast and lunch at my school. With ever vanishing funds from the state and city, in a school with over 300 students, you can see the depth of the problems we are facing.
My Project
Our school has been growing at a steady rate over the past few years. Unfortunately, the gym was converted into classrooms and I was given a classroom for physical education proposes. So, I decided to create a 'fitness center,' where the kids can get a good workout during the winter months. We are in need of various fitness equipment. If things go well, I hope the teachers would use the center for their fitness needs as well.
My kids really enjoy gym and the time we have together. Granted, most of my kids only have gym once a week so they really need to stay active. While I hear them talking about 'Call of Duty' and 'Halo' video games, I'm sure the only thing getting a good workout are their fingers!
Please help Tidewater Park to become the home of the most Fit and Fabulous kids in Hampton Roads.
A little assistance from you would go a long way. Thank you in advance for your support.
