Ms. Harris from Chicago IL is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need watches, alarm clocks, belts and sensory items to support them with time management and self regulation. My students abilities are absolutely limitless. Providing these supports will increase their independence and motivation.

My school is dedicated to meeting the needs of a population of adults with disabilities who are aged 18 to 21. The students who attend our school have completed a traditional high school and seek transition services. We provide a robust curriculum to support their vocational, academic and social-emotional needs. Students are empowered and enthusiastic about learning and that is reflected throughout the school.
Once students have completed the classes on campus, they have the ability to then enrolled in the work program, which ultimately increases their chances of placement within the community to work for a partnered business.
Our goal for each student is to gain the skills necessary to become as independent as possible within their communities upon graduation.
The items requested in this project will support our PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) program. Students earn school money by being on time for school and each class, respecting themselves, others and their environment. Every other week they are able to shop to spend their money as their needs dictate. Students were excited about all of the items which have been donated through previous Donors Choose projects. The watches were a huge hit!
Many of our students are working on improving time management skills and making watches available again for them to purchase, would be the perfect way to assist them with accomplishing those goals.
Items which we are also requesting through this project are watches, alarm clocks, sensory items, wallets, chargers and belts. Students expressed interest in owning alarm clocks to assist them with waking up on time. The importance of being well groomed for school and work, is stressed to our young men and wearing a belt is necessary for them. Having wallets in the store would support students with being responsible with their money and Id. Many of our students own cell phones and do not always have chargers to keep their phone charged. In the society we live in communication is essential and chargers will support effective communicate with their families. Sensory items were also a previously welcomed addition to the store, for students who need support with self regulation. They were such a necessity, that students asked for those again specifically. We asked for coats for the young men in the last project, this time I would like to receive some for the young women.
Funding of this project (coats, watches, alarm clocks, sensory items, belts, wallets, chargers) will provide our students with the opportunity to independently purchase necessities
