Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a high energy middle school, that's in the heart of New York City. Many students in my classroom come in saying they have difficulty completing homework assignments or coming to class prepared because they lack the necessary supplies at home. The supplies they struggle affording range from pencils to binders.
As a caring teacher, I can't expect them to afford $100 calculators when they can barely afford the essentials for everyday classwork.
These students want to learn and deserve all of the opportunities for success that other students deserve. I can't let them take on the challenge of Regents Algebra without the proper tools, it'll demoralize them. I want to give them the best so that they can be their best.
My Project
I'm back with my second donors choose grant for graphing calculators. My students are in dire need for them. These calculators will make a huge difference in my students' learning. My students are 8th-grade math students that will be completing the Algebra Regents by the end of the school year. There are a lot of topics within the Algebra curriculum that require graphing calculators. My students will either feel defeated or become distracted if there are not enough graphic calculators to be used during class time.
My students each need their own calculator so that they can become strong independent mathematics learners.
I believe my students will be extremely grateful for any donations, furthermore motivating them to work harder during class time.
