Our school's Track and Field teams represent their schools with excellence in athletics and character. They live in a small town and its surrounding rural community. About half of our students are low income. Our schools are among the smallest in our division of competition.
Despite these challenges and a lack of funding, our athletes have been remarkably successful.
Our teams at both schools have produced many district and state placers and champions, most notably the 4x100m boy's team winning the state title last season.
My Project
This past season, many of our shot puts failed to make weight. This happens as they get worn down from the wear and tear of the event. This meant that our athletes found themselves having to throw another team's shot puts.
New equipment always gets kids excited.
They feel more valued and this translates to better performance. Our kids often come from situations where any positive is truly appreciated and can make the difference in a young person's outlook on life.
We could also use a new discus carry bag as ours wore out last season. This will help us transport equipment to and from away meets.
