AHS is a high needs school with a very diverse population. There are about 1,200 students enrolled in the school. The school has about a 30% population of Hispanic students. We have many students who speak English as a second language. While some students are middle class, many of our students live in poverty. Since so many students are below the poverty level, every student receives free lunch. Our school is a close-knit community but needs financial support to help our students succeed.
My Project
This summer we had an athlete on the track and field team build a new shed for his eagle scout project. The shed is going to house throwing equipment as well as other meet management equipment. After building the shed the coaches and athletes noticed we do not have shot puts for indoor track. These indoor soft shot puts have a life of about 1 season. Last season the shots started to crack.
Our throwers have worked very hard in the past several seasons and need new equipment to compete with the best throwers in Section 2 Track.
The team is also in need of a new bag to carry our tent to cross country and track and field meets.
