My students need more Reader's Theater activities and a Qball Throwable Wireless Microphone that they can toss and catch to become excited, energized participants in a more game like stress free atmosphere.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is just in its second year. We definitely still have that new feel! Being new is wonderful, but comes with its own interesting set of issues such as a lack of supplies and funding. Our students were transferred to our school from different areas around the district; therefore, they are from a variety of backgrounds. We have a wide range of incomes and an ethnically diverse population.
With San Antonio's nearby military bases, we have a large number of students from military families.
Another large portion of our students are from non-English speaking families, thus we are labeled as a bilingual campus. Added into this mix are our special needs students. Put all of this together and you get a school of wonderful students who often struggle academically, with many below grade level. We are all working together to make this an amazingly successful upcoming year for all our precious students.
My Project
Theater arts is an important aspect to any well rounded education, but 5th graders tend to be to COOL for performance readings. Bringing in an athletic component, such as the Qball, to our Reader's Theater activities will bring in an appeal to more students to be fully engaged. The idea of tossing and catching the microphone between the speaking parts of our especially humorous plays will definitely capture the enthusiasm of my more "standoffish" students. The excitement it will bring to an often stressful situation for some students will help all my students feel more comfortable participating than they otherwise would. I have bilingual students, students with high anxiety issues, and below level readers. The Qball throwable microphone would definitely make the performances more of a game situation easing their levels of anxiousness. I want to create an atmosphere of fun while introducing more reader's theater activities to my students in a stress free environment.
