I teach sixth grade English Language Arts to a great group of kids in Brooklyn, NY. In my three classes, I have English Language Learners, special education students, and general education students. We all work really hard every day to be the best readers and writers possible.
One way to improve our skills is to work in small groups.
We love to collaborate and share ideas. We love to create projects to showcase our learning and make our room beautiful. We are always doing something to make learning fun, like coding, solving puzzles or even making books.
My Project
You know what is awesome! Having Alexas to use in the classroom. Kids asking Alexa for definitions or synonyms. Kids deciding on which choice to make by asking Alexa to flip a coin. Kids playing Jeopardy when they have a few minutes of free time. And, of course, kids asking Alexa to open Box of Cats because sometimes we need to hear meowing.
You know what’s not so awesome, when their teacher forgets to get extension cords so we can, you know, use the Alexas.
Yes, duh on me. I spaced and forgot to request extension cords so that each Alexa can be placed on the kids’ tables. So now we need 4 extension cords and 2 surge protectors to actually do all of the cool ideas listed above. Hey sometimes even a teacher makes a big mistake!
