My students need these items to learn through the art of play. My goal with these games is to help expose my students to foundational skills through the art of playing.
I have known since a young age that I have wanted to be a teacher. I was inspired, pushed and encouraged by so many wonderful teachers who have supported me through my struggles of learning. It was during my high school years that I learned the world of Special Education held a huge piece of my heart. I am so thankful to be working as an Intervention Specialist at a title 1 school. As a title 1 school, we have a high number of children from low-income families and we help ensure that all children meet challenging state standards.
As an Interventionist I wear several different hats, I wear hats that require me to balance IEPs, collect data to improve student growth, work with students who struggle behaviorally and still encourage them to never give up and work towards their goals.
My Project
My project is geared towards games that my students can use to build on their foundational skills. The current demographic that I work with are students who walk into school with little prior exposure. It is my goal to help my students grow in their learning and help make them as successful as they can be both in school and in the community.
Instead of the traditional method of kill and drill, I want to build my students skills through the art of play.
By purchasing these games I will be able to expand my very limited current collection and allow my students to a variety of games to help with their learning. There are several benefits to these games. In addition to building on their skills, this will teach students social skills as well. Teaching them to take turns, work in teams and share. A large portion of my request are items called hot dots. These are great involvement tools for my students to self check and keep them interacting in their reading. I already have 1 hot dot that my students share. The ones that I requested are bundled with both the pens that are universally used on any hot dot materials and books that my students can interact and work with.
