Through Collaboration and Creativity Children Create Art
My students need play-dough, paint supplies, paper, sand and art manipulatives to work in collaborative groups to use their creativity to explore and make masterpieces.
Help make our classroom the melting pot of creativity. I want to make a classroom where all the different cultures can work in collaborative groups to create art on paper with dotters and sand, and to use play-dough to show their minds coming together to create an idea they have all contributed to.
This growing class of 24 students are from Carteret, N.J., many areas around the state, and different countries.
It is very interesting to see many cultures coming together in one room and watching the students try to work in learning stations together. It is very challenging to have 4- and 5-year-old children who have from such different backgrounds try to complete a task, to have children who are still recovering from one of the worst hurricane's to hit N.J. and children from other lands that have never experienced anything like it. I feel art is universal and any child loves to paint, explore with sand, build, and create masterpieces.
My Project
With these materials I can create an atmosphere where these children can be themselves and express their imaginations. They would be able to show the ability of working in collaborative groups to build friendships and art. The creative side can be explored by each child then shared with their classmates. They can work together to bring out the ideas and show it through their art work.
The play-dough, sand and glitter materials will help the children who have experienced the horrible hurricane and are still rebuilding their lives the opportunity to express themselves through art because using words on paper are too difficult, and talking about it just brings them to tears. It will allow those children who have come from so far away a sense of belonging and a learning area where they don't have to write or talk much with a language they are still mastering. All the stories and communication can be through art.
The classroom will provide an atmosphere of creativity, collaboration, and art for every child.
It will allow the opportunity for every child to explore their imaginations and share it will everyone. These materials can and will be used by each child and give them an area to build and create masterpieces.
