My school is ninety-eight percent economically disadvantaged and Latino/Hispanic. My students are mostly first generation Americans whose parents come from Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras and other countries in Central America. Their first language is Spanish and in school, they learn both Spanish and English.
Being from an economically disadvantaged background, many of my students lack basic learning tools such as books, pencils or art supplies.
School is the only place where most of these students will receive meals, attention and educational materials. My students participate in learning centers where they can explore different topics and materials in a hands-on way. They also love to use technology to learn and play. I love coming to work everyday and seeing their little faces light up with joy when they master something new.
These 3 sided easel will enhance our art center so my students will be more excited to express themself through painting.
Becasue at this early age, it is hard for kids to express their emotions and or needs, with these art tools, my students will be able to share the space of the art center and that will allow them to express themselves via painting for reading and writing.
My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent painting. And this project will only help enriche their experience in pre-k and broaden their knowledge on something most likely very new to them.
They will also choose to paint directly to the easel or on paper to save it so that they can show it to their family.
