One of the least favorite aspects of my job is when I have to tell a student we do not have a book that they are desperate to read. Some of those great in demand books are the American Chillers series. Please help the library get more of these great spooky, scary, motivating books!
I am the librarian at a small public school which is nestled in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina.
My school has 150 students of many diverse and unique backgrounds. Many of my students are reluctant readers and do not currently read at their grade level. I hope having more books in the American Chiller series will help motivate students to succeed in their reading efforts and seek to be life long readers
My Project
For many of my students, the only library they will ever visit is the school library. Every week I try to expose my students to new literature and to hopefully develop a love of reading via the traditional story time. Unfortunately, I do not have enough of the American Chiller books to keep my students satisfied. Johnathan Rand's books are quickly snatched from the shelving cart, ready to be enjoyed by another eager reader! Additionally, the few books in the American Chiller series that I do have for the media center have become dirty, worn and torn from frequent use. With shrinking school budgets, often books for the media center are a low priority when basic school supplies are needed.
Having more copies the awesome American Chillers series will encourage my students to develop a love of reading to last a lifetime.
