My students need necessary supplies for a classroom escape room like locks, storage boxes, and backlights; all to help them investigate and solve riddles/clues.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
While I have always loved English class and reading, most of my students have the complete opposite feelings towards the subject. Rarely do any of my students read in class, due to nervousness, and lack of reading skills, and even less read for fun outside of my class.
My hope as a teacher, is to do whatever I can to get my students interested.
I want them to be able to express themselves in positive ways, and be kids. I want them to realize that English class, specifically reading, can be fun, and rewarding. Students will need to read the clues to solve the mystery, and realize that reading can be beneficial.
To help interest and engage students during the school year, I'd like to have them participate in a classroom escape room. Students will work in groups to figure out clues to identify the clues to various different locks. In terms of this assignment, students will unscramble puzzles made online to identify arrows of a directional lock to open up a lock that I'm looking to have funded. That lock will be attached to a box (another item wanted) which will house the blacklights, that I'm hoping can be provided through funding.
Once a student has opened the box to the blacklights, they'll search for a hidden code to help them "escape." Once the code has been discovered, students will continue the hunt by working together to figure out different applicable clues, all associated with some sort of learned/applicable skill.
As students continue with their hunt, they'll come upon different clues, which will ultimately lead them to their final box, which will be locked with a hasp locked (an item I'm hoping to be funded), and will have to unlike three different locks (1 of which I'm hoping can be purchased through funding) to ultimately solve the escape room puzzle.
