Do you remember getting a magazine subscription in the mail each week and being so excited to read it? Or what about real life insects that helped you learn about Science? Both of these resources will keep my students engaged and learning!
I teach 18 eager five and six years old at an IB world magnet school where learning through inquiry is our focus.
We encourage students to be global learners and also to take control of their own learning. The school is a Title I school, which means at least 50% of the students are on free or reduced price lunch.
My Project
Each student will get their own Scholastic news to read each week and keep in their book box. It will offer another type of literature, as all types are important. They will be able to take it home at the end of the week and teach their family at home what they learned through the magazine. The science materials will offer valuable Science lessons as they observe the life cycles of frogs and butterflies and ladybugs. It will teach them responsibility as they care for them as well. The seat sacks will offer another way for students to stay organized as time is of the essence during the day.
All of these materials will improve my classroom because they will offer current news, as well as Science and Social Studies skills that sometimes get pushed to the side in the busy school day of Reading, Math and Writing.
The life cycle kits will provide an opportunity for the students to apply Science skills with hands-on materials. The seat sacks will save time during the day and will keep the students organized.
