My students need these four sets of clothing racks to display free clothing for our homeless students. The establishment of this school based clothes closet enables our homeless high school students the opportunity to have clothing.
My students on my counseling caseload are amazing. Many of my students daily press through negative parental neglect, family drug abuse and generational poverty and homelessness. Yet my kids show up everyday to better themselves and graduate from high school. With all the odds against them they pursue achievement. Many of my most at risk homeless students work jobs outside of school and their daily stress is palatable.

Many of my students are not sure whether they will have food in the house when they get home from school or have clothing or shoes that will get them through the school year. The quote above is the driving force behind what I do as a counselor. How I help to make students feel.....accepted, loved, fed, clothed....listened too is so important to helping my students thrive.
My Project
Our Threads of Hope clothing closet will provide free clothing and hygiene products to our homeless high school and at risk student population. Having clothing and personal items will help students self esteem and alleviate the stress of not having personal needs met thereby enabling them to feel positive and look towards their personal achievement & learning.
When students have shoes that fit, warm clothing when it is cold it brings them such joy & their eyes just "light up".
It's the little things that matter.
Last year a student came in to get a pair of shoes. She was so overjoyed to have new shoes. She had been wearing the same pair of shoes for three years.
