Although some of my First Grade Inclusion Special Education and English Language Learner students struggle with learning daily, they are all inspiring, giggling children at heart.
The students know that when they are in my room they get my attention, care, and concern.
For some students, this fulfills their basic human need of acceptance. The children each have unique abilities, come from diverse cultures and some have autism, ADD, ADHD, ODD, trauma, or anger issues.
I teach in a large, diverse, K-8 high poverty school in an urban area of Philadelphia that experiences crimes. Our school receives Title I funding and the entire school is eligible for free breakfast and lunch. The students come to school eager to learn from various living situations such as single parents, foster homes, homeless shelters, or extended family living. I am dedicated to meeting their needs daily, along with building their self-esteem and confidence.
My students come to school with a variety of academic and emotional experiences. I want my First Graders to fall in love with math, technology and science. By taking this course, I will learn how to teach them additional problem-solving strategies for small group and independent learning time. With this Professional Development course and other online resources, I will be able to develop several engaging math and technology activities. It starts with a calm responsive classroom environment. This course will teach me how to instill a nurturing, accepting, safe classroom.
I hope to learn more about how to teach my students to manage their learning time and grow to be better technologists and mathematicians.
By taking this course online, I will gain Professional Development credits. Help me continue my path as a lifelong learner so that I can help teach MY students. They are OUR future mathematicians, scientists and computer analysts.
