Help me give my students a vacuum, carpet and upholstery cleaner (sometimes we have accidents), mop, broom, new trash & recycle bins, and much more to keep our classroom fresh and clean!
My students attend a distinct, special education program for primary students with moderate to severe learning disabilities. This is a blended classroom, meaning that our special education students have several opportunities daily to work alongside their general education classmates. The general and special education teachers partner to implement lessons and activities appropriate for both groups when they are blended together.
We are broadening our students’ empathy, respect, responsibility, and acceptance of others within a diverse population while providing a challenging and appropriate education.
This cooperative and collaborative effort involves students, parents, and staff within the school community. Our classroom is diverse and our students are beginning to learn to communicate using their words or device.
My Project
Okay, hear me out... Why would you want to put your money towards a bunch of stuff dealing with trash? Isn't there something more important than garbage for a teacher to think about (ahem, on Tuesday at 10:36 pm posting this project). The answer to answer your question, yes! My students need even more support in developing communication and life skills. These kids give their best every day and each day I am impressed with what they can do... and if I can be totally honest, they are also very messy!
This project will provide a durable and oder absorbing trash can, vacuum, small upholstery cleaner, plastic trash and recycle bins, mop, broom, and a ton of supplies to keep our classroom spick and span!
Our classroom is cleaned and vacuumed every day after school by our amazing custodial staff, but a lot can happen during the school day. We eat in the classroom and having a vacuum and broom will help make sure that food that falls on the floor doesn't get put in mouths. We are also starting to work on potty training, which is such an important life skill, but we are going to have some accidents. The carpet/upholstery cleaner will allow us to quickly clean up areas and provide a clean classroom. The mop will let me give our bathrooms a little extra cleaning, so they smell fresh and are a comfortable place for students to use.
