Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are scientists. My students are mathematicians. My students are readers. My students are authors. My students are explorers. My students make discoveries each and every day.
Our Science Academy provides our students with a fast-paced and rigorous STEM curriculum.
It is our mission to provide our students with a challenging and inquiry-based STEM curriculum to maximize individual potential and ensure that our students succeed in a global community. Our goal is to expose students to as many learning opportunities that will prepare them for the future as possible, all while bringing to the forefront ideas and concepts that they may not have considered before.
My Project
Project Lit began as a class project to deliver books to areas lacking access via converted newsstands and has since grown to include book club programs with chapters nationwide. These chapters meet monthly to read and discuss topical literature and encourage a love of literacy within their school and communities.
This project helps put the literature our students need to be reading and discussing into their hands within the walls of our classroom.
By providing these books to students, they are more likely to attend and engage in Project Lit than if they had to purchase or check out the book themselves. Reading is all about accessibility and this project makes it happen.
