We are a small rural band program in eastern Kentucky. Our students are not exposed to music and band until their freshman year. This puts most of our students behind others in the nation. Our band is in need of many different things. However, we still have a very competitive marching and concert band.
This year, we had a student audition for South Wind Drum and Bugle Corp.
This is the first time we have had a student do this in the school's history.
Our students learn very fast and are very proud of the program they are building. This year, we also won our very first 1st Place Standing in our class in a Kentucky Music Educators Association competition. At this same event, our percussion section won 1st in our class and 3rd overall along with our color guard winning 1st place in class as well.
My Project
My students come from a very low economic area. Music is one way they are allowed to show what talents they have. However, each year we must go to band camp to learn our show!
Band Camp is expensive and most of our students are not able to pay the fee.
Without help, the band will not grow and can not afford to pay for the students.
Band Camp is where music is taught and drills are learned with the help of instructors from outside of our school. This is the most important week of the year. Where we get the most done on our show. However, it is so much more than music. The students learn what hard work is and how to not give up when things get hard. They make lifelong friends and a lifelong love of music. Band Camp is a must for us and we need help so our student can keep grown and learning. Thank you so much for your time and gifts.
