My biology class is an amazing group of kids. They are taking a high school course as 8th graders. They are hands-on-learners and risk-takers. Every day we strive to think deeper. We apply the necessary grit to accomplish what we put our minds to.
My students are honors students taking a high school course.
They get high school credit for this biology class. My school is a great place to go to school. Our community is supportive. As amazing as it is, we are a junior high and our numbers and fees don't provide the amount of money the high schools are provided with. This does not allow for the same opportunities as the high school. The course is supposed to be identical, but without the numbers, we don't have the money, and therefore, unequal materials.
My Project
At the end of the year, my students will dissect fetal pigs. They will be able to apply their knowledge of body systems, cells, and classification. They will get a real-life and hands-on experience with these pigs to wrap up the year. Being able to end the year with such a fantastic lab will set my students up for great summer and amazing freshman year.
I want to be able to give my students a fair and equal shot at honors biology.
They are not in the high school and don't have many of the high school's labs, tools, and material. This project will allow be to level the playing field a bit for them.
