The joy of learning! My students embody this. They love to learn and find excitement in everything we do. I am the lucky teacher of 15 Pre-K students in the Pre-K lab at the high school in which I teach. The beauty of my job is that I not only facilitate the learning of 4 year-olds but also the high school students who are part of the early childhood education pathway. What does this look like on a typical day you may wonder? In addition to providing instruction to the Pre-K students throughout the school day, I also provide guidance and feedback to the high school students who visit the lab with lessons they have prepared for the Pre-K students. Our high school students learn about early childhood education not only in their high school courses but also through their interaction with the Pre-K students in the lab. It is fascinating to watch all ages learning from one another.
My Project
I would love to provide my students with the benefits of a lighted table. A lighted table is a special table that shines light to illuminate the translucent table top so that the materials placed on top take on a special glow.
When working with 4 year-olds, it is imperative to build their fine motor skills, so that they are ready for the writing activities that they will do in kindergarten.
A lighted table allows students to manipulate items and build fine motor skills while "playing" in an exciting environment. Students will engage more readily in the learning materials that are placed on a lighted table. In addition they will begin to explore the concept of light and how to manipulate light to create certain affects.
