My Students

These students are some of the hardest workers I've seen. They spend 12-20 hours a week outside of school to work on their FIRST robot. They learn to design, build and program a fully functional robot in just 6 weeks. They spend countless hours outside of our scheduled meetings researching ideas and connecting with other teams.

Some students come from broken homes and I either arrange for transportation or transport them myself so that they can attend our after school meetings.

Some go to our build space directly after school because they would rather hang out here than at home.

My Project

My students are learning Computer Aided Design (CAD) both in 2D and 3D software applications like AutoCAD and SolidWorks. These are phenomenal tools for them to be using at a high school level. Many of them are getting very proficient at modelling their robot in 3D but have no way to show that off other than on their desktop PCs.

When we go to competitions with the robot, they try to bring printouts of 3D views of the parts and assemblies they've created but it's not the same as being able to use a tablet to dynamically zoom and rotate the parts in virtual 3D space to explain to a judge or the general public why he or she designed this part a certain way.

Having several of these tablets available would allow the students to show off their hours of hard work... work that is done above and beyond their regular school day.
