Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I'm with a Special Needs, self-contained, third grade. That's a mouthful and a handful. The children range from ADD, ADHD to Autistic, ED (Emotionally Disturbed) and Learning Disabled. Everyday is a new beginning with these shining stars. They're amazingly curious and full of wonder. This world is a strange place and these little darlings are just beginning to find their place in it. Their curiosity and their simplistic view of life amazes me daily. They have the capacity to love freely and trust me with their tender hearts. I don't take that lightly. My Thundercats are hard-working and full of energy. Some of them are on medication to control their impulsive behavior and outbursts. All of them hold the keys to my heart. I've got to reorganize and redirect their energy. It's difficult enough in the classroom; now, with this remote learning, they're struggling more than ever.
My Project
These are very trying times to say the least. My Thundercats are all in isolation and half of them don't understand what's happening. In the classroom, we used puppetry and props to solidify information and bring story characters to life. I intend to continue that flow to the best of my ability and keep the learning process interesting and fun. I've chosen a puppetry glove that will allow me to provide much needed visual aide. It's difficult enough getting through the nuance of this method of being taught. I just want to give them every possible leg up in learning.
My children have very special needs and need to be taught in a very special way..
I'm trying to make this process as familiar and as transitional as possible, and I believe these little puppets will make a huge difference. I have no Internet at home and depend on my phone for WIFI, so I've requested a WIFI enhancer to strengthen my connection. I thank you in advance for your consideration towards my Thundercats.
