Socrates said, “The unexamined life is not worth living.” We are all on a quest to understand who we are. Who are you? What makes you who you are? How is this connected to the stories we tell? What stories define you? Do you tell certain stories about yourself, or events in your life over and over?
I would like for all students that walk into my room and eventually leave to become inspired young men and women who can change the world.
In this project, we will first explore a text together about one man on a quest to reconnect with an old professor and learn what some of his most important beliefs are before he passes away. They will then develop their own personal essay that reflects a key belief that is central to their identity, in the style of the "This I Believe..." essay project developed by NPR.
The goal of this project is for our class to deeply explore who they are in their writing, and ultimately, publish this exploration in a hard copy book produced for our class.
