Many of them have experienced trauma in their lives and have difficulty coming to school. Our classes serve students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities. The typical student in my class reads at a third grade level and many struggle with basic phonics and number sense. 90% of our students are African American or Latino.
The opportunity and achievement gaps are apparent among our student population.
Special education teachers are expected to deliver excellent instruction in science, math, English and history without the requisite tools to teach our students.
It can be hard to sit still all day long and still stay focused. Students want to move but rigid desks limit their comfort and movement. Being able to move will help students direct their attention to the task at hand and focus on learning. These ball chairs are the perfect answer.
Students can bounce in their chairs but not off the walls.
With these chairs student can get out their wiggles without stopping the flow of learning. Their lower bodies can fidget while their upper bodies can take in new information. Thank you so much for your support in creating a safe and productive learning environment.
