My students are bright, engaging, young minds. Our school is an urban, inner city, Title I school. My students come from an array of incredibly diverse backgrounds. They are socio-economically, religiously, culturally, and racially very diverse. As an example we have 22 languages spoken in our school.
Every day this diverse group of young minds come together to share ideas as they learn.
They give me great hope for the future as they show the amazing ability to think, care, and persevere.
My Project
Next year I will be teaching 3rd grade. After years of teaching 4th and 5th grade, the move to third is very exciting! However it also means I need to gear my classroom toward 3rd grade readers.
This project will provide my students with diverse and engaging books that will encourage their love of reading.
Third grade is a vital year for young readers. Students come in at various reading levels. It is so important that I have an updated classroom library with books on various reading levels, genres, and topics. This could be the year that a reluctant reader becomes a lifelong reader and learner.
These books, like Nate the Great, Ballpark Mysteries, and Nancy Drew, will be used to introduce my students into the genre of Mystery which we will use in our Mystery Reading Unit.
