To prepare for the new state tests for the Common Core State Standards, my students will need to know how to critically think, problem solve, and explain themselves through the use of a computer. In order to help them to be successful, they will need daily skill practice using the Chromebooks.
My group of 25 third grade students are creative and eager learners.
Attending a Distinguished School, these seven and eight year-olds are "digital natives" and are growing up with technology as a learning tool. At our school, students visit the computer lab once a week. We have been fortunate to have fund-raised for Chromebook carts to be shared among the grade levels, but having Chromebooks accessible at all times throughout the school day would be a benefit.
My Project
With access to Chromebooks in my classroom, students will be able to have resources to assist them in most subject areas. They will have easy access to the internet for research, typing practice, as well as other educational web-based programs. In addition, they will practice the skills needed to take the computer-based state tests. Some of the skills required of these youngsters will be to manipulate tabs, highlight, underline, drag, and click. We can also use the Chromebooks for academic intervention for students who are struggling. The technology will give my students meaningful, hands-on learning experiences.
With the addition of Chromebooks in my classroom, students will not only be prepared with necessary computer skills for state tests but will also be college and career ready with the specific skills they develop.
