I am writing this proposal to receive a listening center for my third grade class. I teach in the South Bronx and many of my students are well below grade level in reading. During our reader's workshop time I would like to send some of my struggling readers to a listening center to listen to and read along with a book that is their grade level and above. My struggling readers can't read these type of books on their own but need to be exposed to their language to make them better readers. I have tried to get a tape player and headphones all year and been frustrated with the fact that no one has one for my class and no money is available to buy one. This listening center can really make a difference with the entire class but especially those readers that need that extra support. Our entire class and I would be very grateful if anyone can fund our new listening center.
