My students need books, flexible seating, and a carpet to create a welcoming reading corner that will set the stage for independent and partner readers to dive into a good book and enjoy reading.
My students this year are a group of students who are extremely loving and eager to learn. I have students who are at multiple levels of reading that range from beginning readers all the way to advanced readers in my classroom. My project will give the students a fun, relaxing area to go and read with multiple genres of books to choose from!
My third graders given the opportunity can do anything they set their minds to.
My students are coming from very diverse cultures and are low-income students. However this doesn't mean they don't have the will to learn new things and surpass all expectations given to them. Teaching has always been something I want to do because I want to touch the lives of my students and give them every opportunity to shine possible!
My Project
My students need a classroom reading area which includes a rug, lamp, two oval chairs, a bean bag chair, and different leveled books to develop a welcoming reading corner to reach all of my diverse readers. Regardless of the students' reading level, my goal is to have something for all of my students to be able to read right here in my classroom. Developing this reading corner will allow the students to have an area that they can just relax and read and explore various types of books and genres. My hope with having this corner is that it will make my readers who typically don't want to read have an area that will make them want to read and explore their love for reading.
This project's success will not only provide a separate area for reading in our classroom, but it will also help create students' love for reading by setting the stage for independent and partner reading.
My dream is that my students will be excited for independent reading time and that it isn't something that they will dread doing throughout the day! Reading is something that plays a big role in a child's life, and I want to give my students every opportunity to grow as readers in my classroom!
