My students need to engage and actively get excited to participate in small group setting and instruction. Adding flexible seating will further motivate them to their full potential.

My Students
Our school serves students in Grades K-8. This fall, I will be the 5th Grade Reading/English Language Arts teacher for three classes totaling approximately 84 students from diverse ethnic backgrounds! I will also teach intervention group for students who are reading below their grade level. To ensure my students learn and perform well during testing season, I am hopeful in creating an exciting small groups center, where kids are excited and enthusiastic about participating in small groups, without feeling doubtful.
We are a public charter school which receives Title I funding, with 87% of our students coming from low-income households and eligible for Free and Reduced Price lunches (FRL).
My Project
I am committed to being the best teacher I can be! Continuously looking for resources to add and implement in the classroom setting is always my goal. Flexible seating will give my students the power they have, but are afraid to demonstrate. Often times when I choose particular students in my small groups (they are often rotated) they think of it as a boring or a bad thing, considering they are with the teacher and not independently working. Giving them the power by adding the flexible seating will allow them to move freely, feel comfortable, and work diligently while feeling confident and powerful.
Further, flexible seating is easy to transition across the room without making so much noise and causing distraction to the rest of the class.
It will give them the ability to enjoy small group learning and not shy away from being eager to be engaged and ask questions.
