My students need math materials, like games, counters, a counting kit, and activity centers, to support their understanding of math concepts in geometry, number sense, and patterning.
Budding Mathematicians require opportunities to apply and practice the skills and concepts they have been introduced to in class. By having a variety of tools and games to support their development of number sense, my students will have a solid foundation to build on in future years.
My students are a group of 23 enthusiastic kindergarten children, 10 girls and 13 boys.
Of those students 3 are English language learners. I teach in a school where most families are two income, hard-working families. My students are excited to be at school and are eager to learn.
My Project
Kindergarten students are intrinsically motivated to learn as they play. By providing my students with games and tools that they will be able to use independently or with a peer their mathematical understanding of numbers, geometry, and patterns will increase over the course of the school year making them better prepared for first grade.
Our district, like so many, is feeling a budget crunch at this time; there are no resources to provide teachers with funds to purchase materials that will support students' understanding of concepts and meet the many standards that students are required to meet.
With help from donors, these materials will support the mathematical develop of students this year and in future years.
