Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 5th graders are a unique group, with unique interests, and unique needs. They span from 1st grade to 8th grade reading levels. What they may lack in reading ability, they make up for in their eagerness to learn about the world around them and ability to get lost in a fictional world.

These 5th graders are excited to explore new concepts, learn from each other, and grow as independent thinkers and learners.

All they need is support in their ability to do so.

My Project

My students will be using colored paper and sticky notes to track their thinking while they read. Each color represents a different form of critical thinking. The process, read-stop-think-write, is helping the students apply higher order thinking to their reading, encouraging conversation, and developing written responses. By color-coding their thinking, they are practicing the use of multiple types of thinking.

Your generous donations will help these fifth graders gain the skills needed to perform in such a high-stakes year.

Not only do the colored "thinkmarks" strengthen the students' reading ability, but they strengthen their confidence as well- leading to a group of life-long readers.
