Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
What makes my students special is their drive to learn! This year I have students who are in their first year of full English instruction. It's exciting to see their determination to learn in a language that is relatively new for them in terms of academics.
My students are from the first or second Mexican American generation, and they live in a 95% minority neighborhood.
Ninety-five percent of these students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Our school is 95% low income and is located in the heart of a community that is changing drastically. The majority of our teachers are extremely hardworking and work extended hours in order for us to provide the best education to our students!
My Project
These chart papers are essential in teaching young learners. When teaching elementary students you need to show them instead of telling!. Using chart papers allows me to show students examples of writing pieces, my thinking, reading responses and even good print. I also use these chart papers to create posters of strategies that students can reference as needed.
Without these posters students have a tougher time to understand and produce what is expected of them as young learners.
Every year each group of students are different, so keeping these posters for another year is impossible. Students also must witness your thinking on the spot!.
