Thinking as a Hobby, Not a Headache
My students need weekly resources such as magazines to promote thinking and problem solving skills. Fidget items and games such as squishy balls and puzzles will be used to investigate, test, and find solutions for new inquiries.
Imagine a day when every child loves to think, reason, and problem solve; When thinking becomes a hobby rather than a headache or a struggle; When creative thinking and reasoning become second nature rather than a forced action. With your donation, this impossible today becomes a certainty tomorrow.
My students are first graders, in an "A" school with a diverse population.
23 students, in a self contained class will be served through this designed project. My students range from 5 to 7 years old. There are 7 boys and 16 girls. My students' academic and developmental levels range from low performing first grade to high 2nd grade level, one who participates in our school's talented and gifted program, and 3 who are on the edge of talented and gifted. They particularly enjoy hands-on learning, and any assignment that allows them to use their imagination and spark their creative intuition. Our school is located in a rural setting. The majority of our students are from working class families. Because of this, our school does not receive additional funds like other schools. Therefore, we must rely on fundraisers or grants to support our technology and classroom needs.
Our current movement in education places major emphasis on skills to reason and think critically. These skills are crucial to competence for college and career readiness. The informational text and problem solving/exploration resources will allow students to use their minds, hands, and creativity to read, write, talk, and fidget through new learning investigations and experiences that will transform their thinking and reasoning skills needed for the 21st century. Students will face daily challenges, growing their developing minds into critical thinkers and enhance speaking/listening skills: Project resources will provide for Magazine Monday, Tune in Tuesday, Wonders of Wednesday, Think Outside the Box Thursday, and Fidget with it Friday; Requiring students to read text for new learning about the world, analyze poetry, self-question and research wonders of the world from "close" readings, transform given objects into new objects and express reasoning and findings through explorations.
"Thinking as a Hobby, not a Headache" requires activities which will provide materials directly in each child's hands to read, reason, explore, fidget and create in avenues that will enhance their learning across the curriculum, increase problem solving, embed reasoning skills and prepare them for real life situations.
To fully execute the potentials of this project, we need your help. Ensure your future, by impacting the kids of the future, with taking action today! Donate please, Thanks!
