My Students
My students are great kids in a high need area. Last year was devastating because of a hurricane and several ice storms. A year later we are still recovering. We ARE turning things around. I'm proud to say that we are making strides forward and everyone at school is very proud of them but we are in need of many things to keep moving and take the students to the next level.
This is the one place our students know is filled with consistent caring adults and is a safe place for all of them, and I believe they are fired up about school this year.
I'm asking for donors to help us continue to grow so we can rise above and make our students, parents, and community proud of our Hawks!
My Project
I want all students to participate in our daily conversations about science, it’s an interactive process. I can’t always get my students to raise their hands and answer a question, somehow that is too much pressure for some of them. With the paddle boards I can get them to write out a brief explanation or draw out an answer and reveal it game show style. This makes the activity fun and fast paced which gets more participation and a bigger buy-in from all of my students. It’s no longer a boring Q&A, it’s now a competitive game!
These whiteboards will allow me to see exactly what they are doing, and spot incorrect theories quickly without making them feel self-conscious.
This provides an easy, safe place for them to show and share their work. Our problem is that with the moving from one place to another this year, after the big flood, we have lost some of our materials. Replacing our old boards, the few that are left and making new dry erase walls with the contact paper will be of great benefit in interactive learning and co-operative groups- who wouldn’t like to write on the teacher’s wall?
