This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our exceptional needs Preschoolers-5th grade students of poverty have a wide range of disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorders, Down's Syndrome, sensory processing disorders, chromosome abnormalities, orthopedic impairments, vision impairments, developmental delays, and speech-language delays. They thrive on learning new skills and light up when each new step is achieved. We celebrate each of their small steps toward success.
Despite their differences and struggles they are full of life and hungry for knowledge and new experiences.
Most of our students function on a 3-6 year old developmental age, and lack motor skills and adaptive skills compared to their same-age peers.
My Project
Technology provides a plethora of opportunities for our young preschoolers to gain fine motor skills, communication skills, build vocabulary, and gain confidence in their unique abilities. The Think and Learn Code-A-Pillar will guide my students in creating multiple possibilities of travel for the interactive pet while learning about cause and effect scenarios. My students will gain literacy and math skills through interaction with the Tiggly Learning kit. This system will bring our iPads to life for little hands.
These exciting pieces of technology provide our students with developmentally appropriate activities for learning letters, shapes, and numbers through creative hands on manipulatives.
The Leap Frog Magnet Bundle will provide our students with letter identification, letter sounds, counting practice while helping build fine motor skills necessary for prewriting. These technology enhanced materials will guide our students toward a successful preschool experience.
