Help me give my students access to a color printer so they can see their hard work come to life!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach in a high poverty school district. Students face many challenges in their lives both in the classroom and beyond. Our school district is a participant in a program which provides free breakfast and lunch for all students. Students face numerous challenges in their lives and I firmly believe that it is my duty to provide for their educational needs once they enter my classroom. I want all students to be on equal ground once they enter my room. As such, all students should have equal access to school resources.
Students in my computer class create a variety of documents that demonstrate their learning. Often their projects support what they are learning in their classrooms. Students are very excited to "show off" their creations. However, they currently do not have access to a color printer and the nearest black and white printer for their use is across campus. Often times, students have to print their work and then wait until I can go pick it up for them. Since they only come to computer class once per week, they often have to wait a week before they can see their printed work.
Having a printer in the classroom would afford students the opportunity to instantly see what they have created and to share their work with each other, their other teachers, and their parents.
Being able to have instant access to their creations would motivate students to do their best work. In addition, projects created in my classroom will support the work of the classroom teachers in the areas of science, math, social studies, English, and even fine arts! The skills taught in the computer classroom will benefit students well beyond their school years as they prepare to enter a digital world.
