We have a student-created mural on our classroom wall that says Explore, Dream, Create. This really illustrates what we do in our classroom. We do passion projects, robotics, coding, and designing. We wonder, investigate and make. We want to do more!
My students are GREAT!
My students are 1st-8th graders identified as gifted. We are a small school in a rural area. The elementary students are in our classroom for 2 1/2 hours per week and the middle school students are in our classroom an hour a day. They love design challenges and problem-solving. They are excited about learning coding and robotics. They want to learn more and follow their passions. The gifted class is designed to help them reach their full potential and work at the level that challenges them.
My Project
Our classroom is geared toward personalized learning. A major component of this personalized learning model is setting up a classroom environment that attends to many different learning styles.
I want to give my students voice and choice in their learning and the power to follow their passions.
The room and all spaces are shared by every learner with areas identified for the different kinds of learning children may need to access throughout the day. Some area designs may include group work, presentations or demonstrations (by teachers or learners), research, reading, thinking and discussing, and creating and innovating. Wobble chairs are designed to support students who think better while moving, because they provide a physical challenge and opportunity to release energy while simultaneously working.
What is a wonderful way to empower learners by allowing them to design and choose their ideal learning environment? The simple opportunity to choose a chair that meets your physical needs is a catalyst for developing success and confidence as a learner!
