This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach ninth and eleventh-grade students who love to laugh, talk and be active. My students want to learn, but they don't always want to stay in their seats. That's okay. Learning doesn't always happen in a chair, looking at a board, and copying down notes. In fact, it rarely happens that way. We learn from each other, often through dialogue and sharing our experiences. My students love taking gallery walks around my classroom. They get a chance to share their thoughts and learn from others in our class.
Learning from your fellow students is a powerful thing.
Instead of simply listening to a teacher talk about topics from primary sources to writing essays and everything in between, students are able to engage with each other and hear from those close to them. Nothing fires them up more than a debate amongst classmates. I hope to continually find ways to foster their passion for exploring all the ideas the world has to offer.
My Project
Paper! Ink Pens! Post-it notes! Sticky notes! Hand Sanitizer! How does it all disappear so fast?! I have no idea. It seems that in order to have an interactive classroom, it is important to have accessibility to a never-ending supply of such materials. These materials will come in so handy.
Students will use the pens to take notes on regular paper, post-it notes, and sticky notes.
Students will also use the easel pads to collaborate to create poster presentations related to the lessons studied. The Astro brights paper will be used to create anchor charts to remind students of important concepts. Students will use the hand sanitizer to ensure that their hands stay clean as they share materials.
