Help me give my students the things that many other families have access to right now...family board games, playground balls, jigsaw puzzles and crafts.
My students are all at home right now...for some, that means a nice home and backyard, and for others, that means a single wide trailer in the trailer park. Their days look quite different from our homogenous 8-2 school day. While many of my students connect with me daily via the internet, many are unable to. In my neighborhood, families are out walking together and riding bikes. Siblings are playing together in the front yard, and swimming pools are starting to get uncovered for the summer. For the kids in the trailer park, there is nowhere to walk, ride, or safely play. And there is nothing to play with.
My Project
Through generous community donors and the help of the Donors Choose platform, I received art supplies for some of my low socioeconomic students who have no internet access and very little to do while sheltered in place. I had the pleasure of delivering these materials to the trailer park today. I came home and immediately started this project. It was a bittersweet day of seeing my kids, and placing beautiful art supplies at their doorsteps. It also was a very sad day, as I saw the conditions these kids live in...they are sheltered in place in single wide trailers - in some cases shared with multiple families. There are no yards to play in - there is no open space nor playground. In my family, we are gathered around the table playing games at night. It occured to me that their are no "family game nights' for them - there are no games. There are no jump ropes or balls - no jigsaw puzzles to while the time away with siblings. It was a bleak scene, and these families could really benefit from your help.
