My students come from a small farming community. The majority of them have all been going to school with each other since kindergarten.
Despite the fact that we are a Title I school, and my students have IEPs for many different learning disabilities, each and every one of them has a strong desire to do their best and is eager to learn through all the ups and downs that may come their way.
My Project
My students earn their free time for Fridays, by working hard and getting their assignments turned in for the week. They have voiced that they are bored with their Chromebooks, and frankly, I am happy to hear that. They asked for the Ticket to Ride Game to have a new game as a whole class to play, and the Connect Four game is one that expressed needs to be in our classroom collection. Along with the solar robots, shifting boxes, and the Legos will help keep them engaged in a learning activity even when they think they are playing. The dry erase markers are for my students that love the art world. We have several drawers that enjoy drawing on the big whiteboards.
With these items, my students will be using their thinking skills in many ways, to build, solve, and plan their strategies against their opponents, and express themselves.
These activities will also help them build upon their social skills, which they all need right now in a world where teenagers tend to isolate themselves often behind a computer or phone screen.
