Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students (Pre-K to Fifth Grade) come from all walks of life, but have one thing in common, they love to learn! In the library, they are able to relax with their favorite books and work in cooperative groups to create fun projects, explore new opportunities and express their ideas freely. My goal is for all 670 students to feel comfortable in the library.
Elementary students are at a critical time in their educational, social and emotional lives, it is our job as educators to make sure they have what they need to succeed.
My Project
Hands-on learning is an wonderful way for students to expand their understanding and these Fairy Tale STEM kits will help accomplish this. The new AASL standards include fairy tales for Pre-School through 2nd grade. While these fairy tales are engaging, there is only so much you can do using pencil and paper, crafts and puppets.
By allowing my students to put themselves into the story's problem and find a solution, they are able to further understand the plot along with gaining critical thinking skills.
I can see these STEM kits being used across grade levels and standards to help increase engagement and learning for all students who are able to utilize them.
