My Students
Each day, my Sharp Scholars enter our classroom excited for the opportunity to learn. They know that through perseverance and hard work, they will be ready for college and career.
Although many of our students face challenges inside and outside of the school environment, this does not hinder their eagerness to learn. They inspire me each day with their enthusiasm, and we create a classroom that serves as a safe space where they can take intellectual risks and develop deeper learning.
My Project
In our classroom library, students can check out the books they love. The students carry these books with them at all times, even taking them home so they can read during the evening and on weekends. The books in this project have been carefully selected, as they are all sequels to books my students have fallen in love with. Having access to the sequels of books they already love will help these scholars develop their passion for reading!
I know that providing my scholars with access to sequels will spark their enthusiasm for reading literature!
Reading research shows that the amount of time spent reading is one of the greatest predictors of future academic success for students. A love of reading will translate not only to gains in reading skills for the scholars in my classroom but also to increased student success across all academic content areas, including mathematics, writing, and science. Therefore, I want to provide my students with high-interest literature at a variety of levels to spark and foster their love of reading.
