My students need books to suit their specific reading needs. It is difficult to get books for young readers at a used book store or discount store. Leveled readers are needed to support my students' learning.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come to school eager to learn, excited to share and ready to grow despite the difficulties they face with reading. I am interested in creating an environment for my students to excel. I provide experiences and opportunities in reading that stretch their abilities.
My students attend a PK-5 school in a large school district.
They are of average to very low socioeconomic backgrounds. The students I work with have many difficulties with reading, including dyslexia. They are smart, funny, inquisitive, and caring children. They face tough challenges but are a part of a strong school community.
My Project
Leveled books support the development of reading in a young child. They are written with specific characteristics in mind such as repetition, return sweep to another line of text, complexity of language and character development. At the early stages of reading these books are difficult to accumulate in quantity when funds are so limited. My goal is to help my classroom library to grow with high-interest, quality texts that will support my students. As any books, they don't last forever and can be damaged. Books can go out of fashion too. In addition to books, the Snapword cards will be used as a multi-sensory approach to learning sight words. They include clever motions and picture clues to learn high-frequency words. With the funding of this project, I will be able to support my students' growth in reading.
