Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students all come from low-income households and school is their place to interact with others their age. It is also where they get to engage with other adults since most have families where their parents are working almost all day. Our school is small and resources for our students are not easily accessible. But despite that, our preschoolers are always eager to learn and come to school. They love coming into our classroom and being who they want to be, without any judgement. Instead, our children are encouraged to use their imaginations and be as creative as they want to be. We allow them to become who they want to become as they begin their journey to kindergarten and towards their future.
Although funds at our school are not usually available or are very scarce, we do the best that we can with what we have and our children are always eager and excited to be at school.
We are like their second family and there is nothing better than seeing my children's smiling faces when they enter my classroom.
My Project
In our preschool classroom illnesses come and go often because the children are getting their bodies acclimated to our environment. The thermometers and thermometer covers I am requesting will help us keep track of our children and their body temperatures. Currently, we have one thermometer that we share amongst 5 classrooms (meaning 75 children). There have been times where the thermometer has gone missing and we are left guessing if a child has a fever by feeling their forehead. These 5 thermometers will have a home in each classroom so we can always have access in the event a child is not feeling well.
Health and the safety of our children is our number one priority and these materials will help us with that!
