Help me give my students Pocketlab sensors which can be placed into foam soccer balls and footballs and a Digital keyboard to investigate science with sports and music.
Although our school is located in the center of the Silicon Valley, 52% of our students are Socioeconomically Disadvantaged, 23% are English Language learners, and 46% qualify for free and reduced lunches. Less than 1/2 of the parents have had some college or graduated from college.
Our students have talents in music, sports, and even playing video games, but these are not often integrated in traditional subjects.
When their personal interests are allowed to be incorporated in their projects, our students shine.
My Project
When students can make connections between multiple fields of study, their motivation in learning increases. When their personal activities can be incorporated into the curriculum, they feel valued by the teacher and may begin to develop a growth mindset in subjects they may consider difficult like math and science.
With the use of Pocket Lab Sensors that can be placed in foam balls, and sensors within Google Science Journal and a digital piano keyboard, students can study the physics of sports and music.
Students will be asked to explore either a sport or musical instrument by observing, explaining, recording, and manipulating objective data to understand the relationship between science, sports, and music.
